    DOX.....Conhecimento geral..o que é um DOX ?

Outro dia um maneh aqui (xxxxxx) me perguntou o que era DOX, e um monte de gente falou um monte de besteiras, entao resolvi postar a coisa real.

    Background
    __________

    DOX...

    History Time.

Initially, we had only the 0DAY section in the scene. Over time in the 1990s,
game developers started releasing more and more CD-Rom versions of their games
as opposed to the Floppy Disk versions. At that time, all of the groups were
still ripping the games off of the CD-Roms and cracking them as necessary for
release. Eventually, the games started to become too large to be ripped nicely
within the established Size Limits of the 0day scene. So, some of your
favourite rip groups decided it might be time to start put out CD-Rom image
releases. Of course these would not be allowed in the 0DAY sections because
they are way too large. So, how do you make an image of a CDRom Disc? Well,
the PSX (PlayStation) scene was using CDRWIN with BIN/CUE files and this was
adopted by the PC gamers as well. KALISTO's release of the StarCraft ISO?
The PC ISO scene was born and some sites had created an ISO section to hold
    these type of releases.

Remember that the 0day Rip Games were always getting all kinds of addons,
patches, and trainers. Naturally, the ISO groups also wanted to releases these
type of things for their ISO images too. For the LONGEST time, groups had been
dumping these "addons", which came to be known as DOX, into the ISO Game
section. Now, some people had become annoyed at seeing perhaps 5 dox for every
1 ISO in that section. It was "cluttered" they said, making it a chore reading
so many DirNames to find which one was the ISO and which were the DOX when both
    types were all inter-mingled.

We are not sure when most sites and users started segregating the DOX and ISOs
into separate sections, but TNT remembers them being mixed together still into
    the year 2000 and beyond.

Now in the Year 2005+, we have a very strong DOX scene (even if it is filled
with lots of newbies putting out duplicates of other groups' creations).
Hopefully, you will all agree that it is a welcome addition to see some stats
    and monthly information.

    Definition
    __________

    What is DOX?

DOX is a spoof of the term Docs, which is short for Documentation (manuals).
Even some rip groups in the 1990s used the terms 'Docs/Dox' in their NFO files.

Today, we define DOX as any additions for CD-Rom/DVD-Rom games, excluding the
    actual CD/DVD images themselves.

    DOX includes the following:

    Cheat Codes _-_ Unlockers (All_Access_Cheats)
    SavedGame Editors _-_ Trainers (Memory_Hackers)
    Walkthroughs/Walkthrus _-_ Private/Public Server Patches
    NoCD & NoDVD Cracks _-_ Cracked Patches/Updates
Scans of Game Manuals _-_ Scans of Game Box-Art & CD/DVD Discs
Key Generators / Key Makers _-_ Crack Fixes of others' Broken Cracks
Mini Images of Protected Games _-_ Enhancer Patches (ex: Nudity Patch)
    MultiPlayer Cracks _-_ Language Selectors
    Region Fixes _-_ Content Addons

The following are considered to be DOX according to us. However many others
in the scene do not consider them valid:
    NFO Fix _-_ DIR Fix
OS Fix (such as Win 98/2K/ME Fix) _-_ Game Bug Fix (caused by bad coding)
    Intro Movie Disabler Patch

Basically, most of these things listed are rather small in file size. Also, it
seems that the DOX section has become the "Garbage Dump" of the ISO scene.
People are releasing anything, that is even remotely related to a PC game (and
some things that are not even for PC games), into the poor DOX world.

Still, since most releases are very small in size, really what is the harm?

    Rules/Points
    ____________

Each different type of DOX will be awarded a set number of "base" points.
Individual releases may get LESS than or MORE than the "base" amount depending
on any problems or extra special effort the group put into the DOX. The point
ratings were decided based the effort, skill, knowledge, time, and difficultly
related to the creation of different Classes Of DOX. Also, the usefulness of
the DOX to end-users is sometimes factored into the point system.

    22) Other Misc Crap 1
    23) NFO or DIR Fix 0

    Explanations
    ____________

    01) Cracked Patch/Update
    ---------------------------
Commercially Protected Patch/Update that is cracked.

The executable files have a protection such as Starforce/VOB/Tages/LaserLok/
SecuROM/SafeDisc/etc. Or they have online authorization checks or other
checks whereby a copied CD Disc will not work without a crack.
These are typically the most difficult and time-consuming DOX to create.

    02) Crack Fix (of another grp)
    ---------------------------
Commercial or Serial protected file, which a different group had messed up.

This type does not include Propering NoCD/NoDVD cracks of simple CD Checks.

    03) NoCD/NoDVD Crack
    ---------------------------
Allows the launching of a game without the Game Disc in your CD-Rom drive.

Believe it or not, all CD checks are NOT created equally. Some games
really do need a good deal of Assembly Language analysis to create one.
Others may even have encrypted EXE files that need decoding first.

    Skill/Effort...

...and since some people think the points are too high for this DOX type,
we leave you with a note: not everyone wants to cheat in their games; it is
infinitely more useful to have a NoCD Crack or a Commerical Crack.
    The points are very fair!

    This DOX type includes both:
    a) "Simple CD Checks" whereby a copied disc would still have allowed the
game to run if the Copied Disc was in the drive.
    b) And also the "Simple CD Check(s)" of an already de-protected (cracked)
executable that previously had a Commercial protector on it.
-Call that a double-layered CD Check, which is becoming more rare.

    Special Note for NoCD Cracks:
Sometimes a group puts out an *All Versions* NoCD, which will work on the
current version and on all future update versions. If any different
group(s) already released one or more NoCD Cracks for the current or past
versions, then those groups' releases still receive points for the cracks.
This means that you may see 2 groups each getting full points for a NoCD if
one release is an *All Versions* NoCD.

    04) KeyMaker
    ---------------------------
Generator of a Unique CD-Key, Serial Number, or Authorization Code.

Yes, it can take much more knowledge and skill than many NoCD cracks.
Also, you need Assembly or C Language knowledge to actually code your own
KeyGen application program. But also, some KeyGens are easier than some
NoCDs, such as many Installer Program CD-Key/Serial Checks. So, we award
the same points as a NoCD for this.

    05) MultiPlayer Crack
    ---------------------------
Crack to Enable Online Internet MultiPlayer gaming.

This means that the original Crack or UnProtected EXE file did not allow
MultiPlayer to work. This type of DOX enables the Internet play through
the bypassing of Online Key checks or Master Server authentication checks
or even local offline invalid key checks.

This is very similar (in function) to a Private Server Patch.
However, the base EXE used for a Private Server Patch frequently allows
MultiPlayer already. The PSP usually just allows for people to HOST their
own game Servers and to do so "privately".

*2 Extra Points are added/awarded if the MultiPlayer crack also includes
a Private Server style crack integrated* (specify in your NFO so we know)

    06) Update w/ only Serial Check
    ---------------------------
A less difficult Update to crack. By this type, we define a Serial/CD-Key
check when you try to run the game after Patching it -OR- a protected
Update patcher that demands you enter a valid key before it allows the
    patch to be installed.

*Points are only awarded if no valid Serials/Keys were released with the
ISO or as a separate dox, and also if a working KeyMaker was not released*

    07) SaveGame Editor
    ---------------------------
Program to modify your stats/items/etc contained within a Saved Game file.

In many ways, it is very similar to a Trainer. Instead of Hacking the
game's memory, you hack it's Saved Game File. However, it gets more points
than a Trainer and an Unlocker because it requires more time to create &
debug, along with much MORE coding. Also, Editors typically give more
alterable Options than most Trainers/Unlockers, thus deserving more points.

    08) Language Selector
    ---------------------------
Allows Alternate Languages of a game to be selected.

This only gets points if *both* the installer & the game's
'Config Apps/EXE Files' do not already allow the selection of those
alternate languages. Because? What is the point of a Scene Released
selector if you can already choose those languages without it?
That would be a stupid, un-necessary release.

    09) Region Fix
    ---------------------------
Permits game launching in any Region, with any Country Codes set in the OS.

Region Fixes are defined as anything (crack, data file, patcher, registry
entry), which bypasses a Regional Check that prevents a game from Launching
(or functioning properly) in certain countries. A developer normally has
such a check to ensure people are using a game in a specific region where
that game is sold. Thus, if you import a Japanese or German game to your
country, it might not run, saying that you are not allowed to run it from
    your country or locale.

    10) Unlocker
    ---------------------------
Saved Game or Registry Entries that give access to initially locked content.

The "All Access Cheat" & the "Unlocker" are defined as this type.
Given that every Tom, Dick, & Harry seems to be making Trainers in recent
times, this more obscure dox type gets the same points as a Trainer.
The Trainer guys will probably complain about points, but Unlocking can
frequently be harder due to encryptions and more work needed analyzing the
Saved Game data. Conversely, some Unlockers can be easy as pie. We feel
it "evens out" in the end to be similar to the work needed for Trainers.

    Re: DOX.....Conhecimento geral..o que é um DOX ?

    11) Trainer
    ---------------------------
Program to modify the Memory of a currently running game to enable cheating.

The oldest art of Run-Time Memory Hacking. Previously, an elusive field
reserved only for the elite hacker, now everyone seems to be on-board.

First. For our Report, different game versions are considered to be unique
games for the DUPE RULES below. Meaning you can earn points for every
trainer coded to run on different version updates of a game. If you do a
    v1.1 +5, v1.3 +5, & v2.1 +5, then all 3 Trainers can be awarded points.

We ONLY AWARD POINTS for the FINAL *TWO* Trainers with the Highest # of
working options. If only 1 group has done all of the Trainers for a
particular game, then only the LATEST FINAL *ONE* with the highest # of
options is awarded points. If 1 group does the FINAL TWO Highest-#Options
Trainers, then only the last one gets points and next Highest-#Options by
another group gets the second set of Points.

    Example: JimmyDOX does a +3, then later SammyDOX does a +5 and a +6.
SammyDOX will get points only for the +6, with their +5 being
considered a DUPE. JimmyDOX will get points for its +3 Trainer.

All others get 0 points and are considered to be DUPES. Why? Because we
don't need 15 different Trainers for one game.
The Trainer scene has too many groups doing too much crap at the moment.

Consider: for 1 specific game, a group named HillBillies creates 4
    different Trainers: a +1, +3, +4, & finally a +5. Should they get 4
separate sets of points? No way in hell. They should have just taken the
time to make the +5 and only have released that one. You don't get free
    points for making progressive DUPES.

Some cheap little +1 to +3 Trainers seriously do take 30minutes or less to
make. And know this: with so many FAQs online about making them and lots
of memory watcher programs available, lots of newbies have jumped into the
scene. Just enter the current Number value of your Health from the game
and then run the Mem Watcher and it tells you which location to patch in
your Trainer... Easy? Sometimes yes, but some Trainers can take ALOT of
effort. Yet, with too many people doing Trainers now, we are only awarding
points equal to the Unlockers and Walkthrus.

    12) Walkthru
    ---------------------------
A guide to walk a player through the game to its completion and/or to
    reveal gameplay secrets/hints.

The only guides that are awarded points are shown below:

    a) Those written by a member of the release group
    b) PDF Scans of commercially sold paper-printed guides (ex: Brady/Prima!)

The freebie Game Guides from www.gamespot.com that are being released by
the -DVX group get 0 points. Hell, many of the DVX things are not even for
PC games, but they are being traded in the *PC-Games* DOX section, wtf!!!

    13) Content Addon
    ---------------------------
Additional content that can not be acquired elsewhere and that is not free.

This includes items such as: Bonus Maps, Extra Vehicles, New Units.

There a few ways by which things like this are obtained:
    a) Registered User bonus downloads (when you buy a game and register it
online, sometimes the company gives you a link to bonus stuffs, like the
extra new units or some new maps)
    b) Stripped from a different version of the game (different regions can
    contain altered game content). Example:
the "Need For Speed: Underground 2" cars. There were some separate Euro
versus USA cars that came with different regional releases of the game.

For most users, these DOX releases are their only possible way to get this
extra content. Very handy, quality releases.

    14) Cheat Codes
    ---------------------------
Secret Codes implanted by the developer to permit Cheating.

Skill Level is low to find Cheats for many games, but there are exceptions.
1 Less point is award if half or more of the Cheats have no description on
what they do. That is lazy bullshit. If you make Cheat Codes releases,
then spend the time to actually make sure they work and spend the time to
discover what effect the codes actually have! Since a large amount of time
may be needed to learn the effects of the codes, we are awarding a decent
number of points. Also, some Cheats are stored with encryption and require
much knowledge/skill to find them. But then again, others are very easy to
locate and release, so overall they get less points than Trainers/Unlockers.

    15) Scans (Manual or Art)
    ---------------------------
Image files of scanned Box/Disc art or PDF file(s) of printed documenation.

Less points that most other dox because no skill, knowledge, nor cracking
is needed to scan a bunch of pictures. Any bozo with a scanner who works
at a store or who buys a lot of games can do it. Still, they are nice to
have for sceners. So be glad for the points we award.

Also, if you put both the Manual and BoxArts into the same Release, then we
only award 1 set of points for the whole release. Too bad for you, because
sometimes people only want *1* of those things. Separate is BETTER.

    16) Private/Public Server Patch
    ---------------------------
A patch to allow Internet Game Servers or LAN Game Servers without needing
valid CD Keys. Or a patch that keeps your server private by stopping
communications with the company's Master Server.

Less points than a normal NoCD or Serial Crack. This is because many of
these Server Patches are VERY easy to make. Some require no debug/assembly
knowledge, just NIX'ing of the Master Server's DNS or IP string in the game
    Executable File.

    17) Enhancer Patch
    ---------------------------
De-censor, Nudity Patches, Blood Patches, and others count as this type.

Nice stuff for people that want it. But it usually requires less knowledge
and skill to make them, compared to other DOX types.

    18) OS Fix (Win 98/ME/NT/2K)
    ---------------------------
Altered executable(s) to allow a game to run on various Operating Systems.

Also included are Hacked Installer files to allow Setup upon various OS's,
but points will only be awarded if the installed game will RUN on those OS!
The reason some people think some of these fixes do not belong in the scene
is that they are frequently Fixes of a Developer's oversight. Meaning they
are not crack fixes and could be more at home on public servers. Still,
for all the sceners out there that need these fixes to run their games on
whichever OS they use, they are happily welcomed. Points are awarded.

    19) Game Bug Fix
    ---------------------------
Similar to the OS Fixes above, these are created by DOX groups to fix game
    bugs left by a Developer.

Some say they don't belong in the scene because it is the Developer's job
to fix these issues in a patch update. However, while you wait for an
official patch, you WILL download one of these if it fixes your problem.
So, they are useful and sometimes VERY HARD to make because sceners do not
have the game's source code. Points are awarded.

    20) Mini Image
    ---------------------------
Miniature CD/DVD image file to mount with a CD Emulator program.

They permit you to run a game without needing a Burned CloneCD and without
cracks. However, if a Crack is already out, most people don't care about
Mini's. So less points overall for this DOX type.

Also, 0 points are awarded if they are StarForce protected Mini Images that
DO NOT WORK unless you unplug your real CD/DVD readers from your PC. That
is very lame and not a "REAL MINI" as far as we have decided. This also
means 0 points for all those Mini's that say you must download applications
from the Web to disable CD Nodes and Devices -OR- ones that say you must
leave protection emulator/trick applications running in the background to
play the game. That's worse than a real crack!

    21) Intro Movie Disabler
    ---------------------------
Rather lame we think. Usually they are either a patch to stop the game EXE
from playing Intro/Company-Logo movies or they are blank Movies files to
put in your game directory. Still useful for those games that have no way
to stop those movies from playing. Gets very annoying sometimes. Points

    22) Other Misc Crap
    ---------------------------
Random weird little fixes, patches, maps, CD to DVD conversions, DVD to CD,
DVD9 to DVD5, and anything else that does not quite fit into the other
categories. Either 1 or 0 points will be awarded depending on usefulness.

    23) NFO or DIR Fix
    ---------------------------
We like big fat bloaty DOX Archives. So we consider these tiny things to
be dox. But, since it's just a TEXT Fix for something you (the release
group) had fucked up, no points are given.

    Details
    _______
Dupes and Nukes get 0 points. Nukes are usually done for reasons of:
+ Non-Working / + Violation of Scene Rules (such as Beta or Alpha patches) /
+ Repacked / + Propered by Another group / + Bad Packing of Files /
+ *STOLEN CRACKS or TOOLS* from other groups.

Be aware of our rules for Trainer Duping as described in Point #11 above.

Beta patches and updates are nuked. Beta is nuked in the 0day scene. The 0day
scene SPAWNED the ISO scene and thus the ISO scene inherits most of the 0day
scene rules. The ISO scene SPAWNED it's little Sub-Division scene of DOX.
Thus, DOX also inherits most ISO and 0day rules. Beta patches are nuked
because they are not supported by the Developers and can frequently have very
bad bugs due to untested Code. It is ruled that groups must wait for a Final
patch before releasing NoCDs, Cracked Updates, Fixes, Trainers, etc.

The DOX scene does not obey the 0day 14-day Minor Update rule. This is because
update patches are usually so rare that you may not see a new one for years
after the last patch. So, if we had to skip the latest patch due to a MU rule,
then no one could get those fixes/changes to the game, until the next patch
comes out, maybe years later. It is just not practical have a MU rule for DOX.

Also, 0 points are awarded on DOX for games that never had a valid ISO release.
You can't make DOX for something that the scene does not have yet! It is
against scene rules and thus we give no points.

    For the DOX Report:
Sometimes, a dox release will be awarded 0 points for there having been No
Scene Valid ISO releases, for which that dox could be used on. As an example,
we might see a VALID WORKING ISO *2 months* after the previous invalid ones.
However, we will not retro-actively award points for those old dox releases,
listed in previous issues of the DOX Report. That would mean some group was
allowed to put out DOX which no one could use 2 months ago, but then:
'oh, now there is a valid ISO, so all is good'. ...No, its not all good.
You do not deserve retro-active points in a situation like that.

    Invalid Releases
    ________________
As stated above, DOX only get points if they are created for scene-valid ISO
    releases which were not NUKED.

First, homebrewed releases are invalid. This is either a straight archiving of
game files (not even an ISO image for god sakes!) or a home-made ISO image
created out of game files (either from a supplier or a web-downloaded game).
There are a few games available only as purchased downloads from the web, which
are just installer files and thus non-ISO.
This is considered invalid by long-running, accepted ISO scene rules.

Second, any release using DEMO files to 'bypass' the protections is invalid.
It does not matter whether it works or not. Why? Because the actual code in
the final protected executables is 99% of the time different than the DEMO
code. Surely in the weeks/months after the DEMO was released, the developer
had made fixes or changes to the FINAL game code. DEMO files are invalid!
We want the true, final game code that all of the Retail customers are getting.

Third, the PC game cracking scene is suffering as of the year 2005 and probably
this will get worse in the future. So, we will be counting some of the hated
CloneCD/CloneDVD releases as Valid Scene ISOs. There are conditions as to what
    exactly is considered *valid* though.

A valid Clone is defined as a release that meets all of the following:

    1. Can be burned to real physical CDr/DVDr discs.

    2. Can run off that burned media *without* requiring any software/hardware
    protection bypassers/tricks.

    3. Runs 100% the same as the Retail store discs. The same game code with no
problems introduced by the Cloning Process (related to the protection).

    Re: DOX.....Conhecimento geral..o que é um DOX ?

Thus, this means the following are considered invalid:

    1. Any release whose NFO file does not mention that the images Can Be
Burned. Now, some of those releases may actually work if burned, but if
the release group refused to list that information, then the image is
considered invalid. We do not have time to test every single Clone.
Most of the ones that say stuff like the following are automatically bad:
"mount the images, install, mount CD1, play. if problems, run *Anti-Blaxx*"
Notice that it says *nothing* about burning or burn speed or burn options.

    2. Any release that requires image mounting as the only method to launch the
game. Such as with the CD Emulator programs Daemon Tools & Alcohol 120%.

    3. Any release that requires a protection emulation or a protection bypass
tool. It does not matter whether or not the tool is actually running in
the background or if it patches your drivers/system_settings.
A set of example lame conditions & lame programs are listed:
    a) Alcohol 120% with RMPS Emulation Required
    b) StarForce protected game that require CD Drives to be disabled
    c) AntiBlaxx, StarFuck, TetrisEmu, StarForceNightmare, etc required
    d) Requiring SCSI or USB CD/DVD drives to trick a protection

    4. Recently added:
Those "SFClone" releases are also invalid. We had hoped they would work
as advertised, but no such luck. These "SFClone" things say you can burn
the images with Alcohol 120%. Then, the game should install and play fine
if run from a CD Reader-Only drive. However, as reported, they do not
work at all for many people, including me. It could be that some CD
Reader drives (which don't do CD Burning), are very advanced and can still
report the MediaID or Manufacturer information about a CDr copied disc
just like most Burner Drives do. Also, it is said the info in the images
is created according to tests of the speed and/or read capabilities of the
specific CD Drive that the release group itself used to make the image.
So, they simply can not work for everyone in the scene. Thus, invalid.

Why all of this? We want TRUE CloneCDs, not Clone Images.
    Consider it like this:

If you cloned a sheep, you would not get a computer image of a sheep nor some
virtual reality, artificial-intelligence simulation of the sheep. No... You
would get a living, breathing 100% duplicate of the original sheep. It would
eat, take a crap, drink water, and look exactly like the original sheep.

So, back to the Cloned computer CD/DVD disc issue:

It is not a real clone if you can not get a Physical CD-Rom/DVD-Rom disc to
work just like the retail, store-bought version. Who wants all these strange
garbage programs running in the background emulating crap to permit a game to work.
